Guarding Public Interest in Policing

Dr. Fred Matiang’i, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government  – May 22, 2018

“President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent me with sincere gratitude to IPOA. I’m satisfied you (the Board) served with sincerity and dignity. We shall provide all support we are supposed to so that IPOA realize its mandate. Police and security officers work hard to ensure our country remain safe. Much as we love our police officers in this country there are some bad ones. They should not engage in crime. When an individual officer assaults a member of public we all get hurt. It’s not right that a student must be killed during a protest. It’s time to close ranks and work together. Nobody needs 26 police officers as bodyguards. We don’t need to move a police station to your office. I will be the biggest protector of the law that establishes IPOA. We are not keen in cannibalizing IPOA. We shall do what we are supposed to do as per law to get a (new) board for IPOA,”
