Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi, has emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment and support to civilian oversight over the work of police in order to ensure zero tolerance to police brutality and excessive use of force.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary highlighted the crucial role played by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority IPOA, which is mandated to ensure that police officers maintain professionalism as they carry out their work of maintaining Law and Order.

Mr. Mudavadi while responding to an assertion by the African Commission on Human and people’s Rights said that IPOA investigates police misconduct and hold individual police officers accountable for their actions, including recommending their prosecution.

He affirmed that citizens freely report all kinds of complaints on police misconduct and impunity to the Authority. Mudavadi spoke in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he attended the 44th ordinary session of African Unions Executive Council of Foreign Affairs Ministers.
IPOA was established through an act of parliament published in November 2011, under the transformative 2010 Constitution to provide for civilian oversight over the work of the police in Kenya
