Support from Parliament is critical in ensuring IPOA has the resources and enabling legal environment to fully implement its strategic plan. Through its committees it is also key in its oversight role of helping to build public trust in law enforcement.
Parliament has expressed confidence in the Independent Policing Oversight Authority in its efforts to steer policing into higher levels of professionalism in Kenya.
Hon. Peter Kaluma, who sits in the National Assembly’s committee on National Administration and Internal Security, made the observation during the IPOA’s launch of its Strategic Plan 2025 – 2030.
The legislator lauded IPOA’S third Board which he said comprised of competent members from diverse backgrounds, an indication of the Government’s commitment to reforms in the national Police Service.
The Board chaired by Mr Ahmed Isaack Hassan brings to IPOA a wealth of experience and integrity that will enhance the institution’s ability to effectively carry out its mandate.
“In my public service tour, brothers and sisters in this particular committee I have vetted three Independent Policing Oversight Authority board appointments and they have been counted today. I wanted to say Chair Isaack and the team,
when I heard of your nomination to the IPOA board, I was very excited and you will remember and I think thiswas in public when you came before us for vetting I barely had any question for any of you,”
