The High Court has jailed for Ten years, an officer responsible for the shooting and death of Mr. Erick Gitonga.
The decision was pronounced at the High Court in Embu on Monday October 16, 2023, ending a trial that was triggered off after an investigation by Independent Policing Oversight Authority.
Alex Kanisa, then a police constable at Siakago police station in Embu County, shot Mr Gitonga, causing injuries that led to his death.
He was shot on November 3, 2014 and died twenty-six days later at Kenyatta National Hospital on November 29, 2014.
Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, having reviewed IPOA investigation file as the law dictates preferred a murder charge against the officer, a legal suit which has now been concluded following the sentencing by Justice L. Njuguna
