A former police officer who defiled a minor has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The Court in Githinguri had in March, found Jacob Conrad Ojiambo guilty of defiling the minor on April, 14, 2019, while serving as an Administration Police Constable.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) investigated the matter and noted that on the material day, Ojiambo grabbed the minor’s hand and frogmarched her to his house within the Mitahato Administration Police Post, defiled her and threatened to harm her if she reported him to anyone.

The matter was reported to the Githunguri Police Station and on learning about the matter, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority, on its own motion took over investigations.  At the time of the incident, the minor was a Standard 8 pupil at a school in Githunguri

IPOA’s investigations found the then officer culpable and forwarded the investigations file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which upheld IPOA’s recommendation to charge the officer.

The former officer was arraigned in Court on October, 26,2021 at the Githunguri Law Court, paving the way for trial, which resulted in the conviction of the ex-officer on March, 20, 2025. He was found guilty and convicted for the offence of Defilement contrary to Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(3) of the Sexual Offences Act.
